The defending national champion 91短视频 hockey team fell short of a chance to repeat, losing to Ohio State University Sunday.

The Buckeyes topped the Pioneers 5-1 to advance to the Frozen Four, ending DU鈥檚 season.

鈥淚 thought we came out and we were ready. I thought our effort was really good tonight,鈥 said DU head coach Jim Montgomery. 鈥淲e just have to tip our hats to Ohio State. They were better than us tonight in every facet.鈥

The Pioneers outshot the Buckeyes and had more power play chances but still found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard.

After a scoreless first period, Ohio State built a 3-0 lead midway through the third frame. 厂辞辫丑辞尘辞谤别听听redirection put DU on the board with nine minutes to go, but the Buckeyes struck back 30 seconds later to put the game on ice.

鈥淲e tried everything in the book to get going, and it just didn鈥檛 work,鈥 said senior defenseman听听鈥淭hey beat us.鈥

Hammond is one of four seniors whose collegiate careers ended Sunday. Defenseman听听蹿辞谤飞补谤诲听听and goaltender听听also played their last games in Crimson and Gold.

鈥淔our young student-athletes that came here as freshmen and the growth in them as people, players and leaders, I can鈥檛 thank them enough for what they鈥檝e done for our program,鈥 Montgomery said. 鈥淭he true sign of character is leaving a place better than when you arrived. That鈥檚 what they did for the 91短视频 and Denver hockey.鈥

Forward Troy Terry and defenseman Ian Mitchell were named to the all-tournament team.

Gymnastics Big 12 Championships

Posting its highest road score of the season, the 91短视频 women鈥檚 gymnastics team finished second at the Big 12 Championships Saturday.

The result propels the No. 13 Pioneers into their 20th consecutive NCAA Regionals Tournament.

"We said we wanted to peak toward the end of the year, and we鈥檙e doing that," head coach听听said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been gaining momentum every meet as the end of the year has approached. We鈥檒l still continue to refine our performance before Regionals, but I鈥檓 impressed with the team鈥檚 competitive nature and mental toughness.鈥

厂辞辫丑辞尘辞谤别听听finished second in the all-around and the Pioneers posted a school-record score of 49.475 on bars.

Karr, junior听听and freshman听听were named to the all-Big 12 Championship team, while freshman Lynnzee Brown was named Big 12 co-Newcomer of the Year.

Swimming 2018 Championships

The 91短视频 men鈥檚 swimming and diving program finished 22nd at the NCAA Championships 鈥 its best Division I result since 1962.

厂别苍颈辞谤听听led the team with a sixth-place finish in the 200 back stroke and earned his fifth All-American honor.

Freshman听听redshirt-freshman听听senior听听and sophomore听听set a new school record in the 400 freestyle relay and finished 21st in the race.
